Where to Stay Near Kudle Beach and in Gokarna
Gokarna is small, but where you sleep changes the holiday completely. This is an honest guide to the main areas — written by people who live here — followed by what we offer at Namaste Yoga Farm, approximately a three-minute walk from Kudle Beach.
The main areas, compared
Kudle Beach
A wide C-shaped bay just south of Gokarna town, backed by low green hills. Quiet, good for swimming, a handful of simple cafés on the sand, no clubs and no through road. Best for couples, solo travellers, long stays and anyone who wants to sleep to the sound of the sea rather than a sound system.
Gokarna town
The temple town itself, with markets, thali restaurants, the main bus stand and Gokarna town beach. Practical and atmospheric, but busier and less green. Best if you want easy transport and Indian town life on your doorstep.
Om Beach
South of Kudle, shaped like the Om symbol. More cafés, more travellers, a younger crowd and some water sports. Best for sociable backpackers.
Half Moon and Paradise Beaches
Further south again, reached on foot or by boat. Very basic huts, very few facilities, no road access. Best for people who genuinely want to be off-grid for a few nights.
How to choose
- You want quiet and nature: Kudle Beach, set back from the sand.
- You want to swim every day: Kudle Beach.
- You want restaurants and transport: Gokarna town.
- You want to meet people: Om Beach.
- You are staying a month or more: Kudle Beach, where prices for longer stays are reasonable and there is enough infrastructure to live comfortably.
- You want a large hotel with a big pool and air conditioning: honestly, Gokarna is not the right destination. Goa will serve you better.
What to expect from accommodation in Gokarna
Most places near the beaches are small — guesthouses, garden cottages, a few huts — rather than hotels. Some practical things worth knowing before you book:
- Air conditioning is uncommon outside the larger hotels. Ceiling fans and thick stone walls do most of the work.
- Swimming pools are rare and usually small. Ours is a plunge and sitting pool, open October to March, not a conventional swimming pool.
- Wi-Fi quality varies a lot. Ask before you book if you need to work.
- Many places close or run a reduced service during the monsoon, roughly June to September.
- Vehicles cannot reach the beach itself, so expect a short walk with your luggage. At Namaste Yoga Farm, parking is about 200 metres away and our staff help carry bags.
Staying at Namaste Yoga Farm
We are a small, family-run place in a tropical garden approximately three minutes on foot from Kudle Beach, open since 2007. Fifteen units in total:
- Seven cottages — Holiday, Romantic, Classic and Family — built from laterite stone and wood, with private terraces.
- Six garden and hill view rooms — bright, simple, with terraces looking into the greenery.
- Two treehouses — built among the palms, for people who like waking up in the canopy.
Breakfast and good Wi-Fi are included. There is no air conditioning and no full restaurant. From 1 November to 31 March, complimentary daily yoga classes are included for accommodation guests; outside that period we operate as peaceful holiday accommodation without scheduled complimentary classes. You never have to practise.

Frequently asked questions about where to stay in Gokarna
Where is the best area to stay in Gokarna?
It depends what you want. Kudle Beach suits travellers who want quiet, swimming and nature within walking distance. Gokarna town suits those who want temples, markets and bus connections. Om Beach is livelier and more backpacker-oriented; Half Moon and Paradise are remote and very basic.
Is Kudle Beach better than Om Beach?
Kudle is generally quieter and wider, with a gentler entry into the sea. Om Beach has more cafés and a younger, busier atmosphere. Neither is objectively better — Kudle suits rest, Om suits sociability.
Where should couples stay in Gokarna?
Most couples prefer the Kudle Beach area for its quiet and its sunsets, staying in a cottage or small guesthouse set back from the sand rather than in a large hotel.
Is Gokarna better than Goa for a peaceful holiday?
For quiet, yes, in most cases. Gokarna has far fewer large resorts, no club scene to speak of and beaches that are still reached on foot. Goa offers more choice in restaurants, transport and nightlife.
Are there cottages or treehouses in Gokarna?
Yes. Simple cottages set in gardens are common near Kudle Beach, and a few properties, including Namaste Yoga Farm, have treehouses built among the palms.
Do places in Gokarna have air conditioning?
Many do not. Away from the larger hotels, ceiling fans are the norm — including at Namaste Yoga Farm, where there is no air conditioning at all.
